I ran my last 3 diesels on predominantly Shell V Power and over maybe 60,000 miles in total I felt that I was getting marginally (measurable but not great) better mpg and have never once seen the dreaded dpf light come on. I now use the equivalent petrol in my PHEV. According to Shell themselves, V-Power Diesel is better because: 1) it's produced using gas-to-liquid/GTL tech, 2) it is produced at "selected refineries" and 3) it contains cleaning additives to keep your engine "fit and strong". In short, yes. V-power gas is better than other types of gasoline because it has a higher octane rating. This means that it can withstand more compression before detonating, which results in a higher-performing engine. There are a few reasons why having a higher octane rating is important. For one, it can help your engine run more efficiently

Cant say I can tell the difference by the seat of my pants with Shell V-Power and Tesco Momentum. Tesco is so much cheaper though. Tried some asda 95 as it was an emergency fill up. Probably 5mpg worse. Thats on a turboed engine. Shell V-power diesel seemed to improve fuel consumption but not enough to justify the cost.
