As an A-to-B commuter, the Camry or Accord does things just as well as the Passat, and the Passat would command a slightly lower price if it were a Japanese car (probably), but it'd still be rightly priced higher than the Camry/Accord. There's a difference between de-contenting an Audi to make a Volkswagen and just making an economy car.

The engine output has been reduced by 27bhp and 30Nm compared to the Passat Highline. The difference is its kick-off to 100km/h: the Elegance is 1.2 seconds slower.
